Newcomers & Visitors

Whoever you are, wherever you find yourself in your journey of faith, you are welcome at St. James.

Our philosophy is simple: Everyone is joyously welcomed. The people of St. James come from a variety of backgrounds and lifestyles. We welcome diversity in our parish as every person is wondrously created in the image of God.

We understand that walking into a church for the first time can be overwhelming, so we seek to create worship that is accessible to everyone, whether a person has never been to church, has worshipped with another denomination, or is newly arrived in the community.

Everything you need to follow the service is printed in the bulletin which you will receive at the door. There are no reserved seats.

Each Sunday, greeters and members of our newcomers committee are available to answer your questions. Our rectors and church staff are here to help you in any way. There are cards in each pew that make it easy to leave contact information, and cards with information about the church; please take a set of these as well. If you tell us you would like more information, you will be contacted by John, our Interim Rector, as well as from a member of our newcomers committee.

Joining us is straightforward. Come to church and let us know you wish to be a member. New members are formally welcomed on Newcomer Sundays. You will receive our monthly newsletter and be put on our “Keep in Touch Ministry” list, a way for a member of our parish to contact you just to check in and see if there is any way we can be helpful.

If you have any questions about St. James or would like to explore ways to serve, please call the church office at 315-685-7600 or e-mail stjamesmanager@verizon.net. Please know you are in our prayers as you journey in faith and that you are a blessed and precious child of God.
